KVB-30D
UV Exposure Box
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS:
- Turn off all switches on the front panel and adjust the exposure time with the second preset switch, using the top buttons to increase exposure time, and the bottom buttons to reduce time. Common exposure times are 60-70 seconds for photographic film, 70-100 seconds for Laserstar or Jetstar, and 300 seconds for 80gsm photocopy paper. Exposure times are only a guide, and bracketed test exposures are recommended.
- Unlock the vacuum clamp by pushing the metal latches outwards with your thumbs, and open clamp.
- Place the presensitised PCB in the vacuum clamp with artwork on top. If exposing double sided PCB's, attach artwork to two small pieces of scrap PCB as shown. Insert the presensitised PCB between the artworks for perfect alignment.
- Close the vacuum clamp by pushing the frame of the clamp down until firmly locked.
- Start vacuum pump and wait for approximately 30 seconds until the air under the vacuum clamp has been completely removed.
- Close box, lock clamps and turn on UV light source, upper, lower or both as required. The LED display indicates how much exposure time has expired, and signifies completion by sounding a buzzer. Set the exposure time with the thumbwheel switch.
Sixty seconds is normally sufficient with high contrast materials such as a photo-plot.
Five minutes exposure can be used as a guide for a laser print on plain paper.
It is recommended that a test exposure is made, to confirm exposure times.
- Turn off vacuum pump, open the box and wait a few seconds then unlock the vacuum clamp and open slowly.
- If you wish to expose multiple PCB's the re-expose function will help speed up the operation.
NOTES
- Laser prints at 1:1 ratio can produce very good results. Laser printers and most photocopiers can produce excellent results on Laserstar, while Jetstar is optimised for inkjet printers. See PRICE LIST for ordering details.
It is difficult to obtain a satisfactory artwork from overhead transparency film as it is not designed for high density printing. It is made for a certain amount of translucence, so the colour can be projected. If it were truly opaque, only black could be displayed when the projector light shines through. If a suitable artwork is not available, try a reprint on a second transparency sheet and line the two sheets up together. Overprinting the original image is not recommended as alignment is difficult.
- Breaks and flaws in artwork may be touched up with a black text pen.
- Normal artificial room light will not harm the sensitive PCB surface if exposed less than five minutes.
WARNING
- Avoid close range eye exposure to the operating lamps. Looking directly at the operating UV lamps may cause eye damage. Do not try to over-ride the safety switch.
