Diode Arrays
|
When real-estate is short on a PCB, and arrays of terminating resistors or diodes are required over a bus, the sensible solution is a SIL (single in-line) array. Resistor arrays have been used for years, and common resistor arrays can be bought for a few cents.
Diode arrays have been around as well, but are not commonly used. Why? because they cost a few DOLLARS.
Well now the Module diode array costs less than a dollar, making it an economical alternative to discrete diodes. The array comprises of 8 x 1N4148 (or equivalent) diodes and one common pin (9 pins). They are available in either common cathode or common anode.

The clamp is not RoHS compliant, and is being discontinued. We don't recommend the RD series for new
designs.
A RoHS compliant clamp is being developed. Ordering will be through this page when it becomes available,

The RDA series diode arrays are designed around an insulated leg clamp, with discrete diodes locked into a conductive channel. The free diode legs and the common point are set on a standard 0.1" (2.54mm) pitch for easy incorporation onto a PCB.
Cost savings in installation time alone make them far superior to discrete diodes, first cut and formed then individually placed on a PCB. And not forgetting how small and fiddly a 1N4148 can be, what does it cost you when just one diode is inserted with incorrect orientation?
If the 8 diode, 1 common arrangement does not suit your requirements, then other designs can be made, although minimum quantities do apply.
They may not look as pretty as the encapsulated hybrid designed diode arrays that you may have seen before, but they work, and they don't cost dollars.
And if you really want the encapsulated hybrid type, well we still have a handful left - but they will cost you dollars. |
